Forestry’s Past, Present and Future
The Adam Art Gallery is holding a one-day symposium on issues relating to forestry. This symposium will bring together foresters, scientists, environmentalists, historians and filmmakers to review the history of forestry in New Zealand and to discuss a range of issues that face the industry at this historical juncture.
Speakers will include notable historian of the exotic timber industry, Michael Roche; expert on silviculture and ‘forestry visionary’ Wink Sutton; George Asher, Chief Executive of Ngati Tuwharetoa forests at Taupo and Rotoaira; environmentalist Kevin Hackwell; landscape architect and forestry analyst Clive Anstey; filmmaker Rod Prosser, and artist Natalie Robertson. There will be an opening address by Jane Kelsey, one of New Zealand’s foremost authorities on the implications of global free trade policies, and closing remarks by Hamish Levack, forestry consultant and director of Levack Forestry, who has spent many years in forestry management, forest planning and forest policy roles.
